Cermin satu arah biasanya digunakan sebagai cermin di ruangan yang terang, dengan ruangan yang jauh lebih gelap di sisi lainnya. Cermin in juga dapat menghemat biaya pendingin ruangan, mengurangi silau pada layar komputer dan TV, dan memiliki daya tahan yang lama.
