Documentation of Event

The International Seminar is an event designed for both Binusians and the general public to explore global issues related to accounting, finance, and technology. On November 28, 2025, HIMA BINUS presented the theme “The Role of AI in Fraud Detection and Financial Security”, providing participants with the opportunity to engage with distinguished speakers through ZOOM Cloud Meetings and deepen their understanding of how Artificial Intelligence supports financial risk analysis, along with effectively detecting and preventing fraud.

The event began with opening remarks by Genoveva Rachel Young as the Master of Ceremony, who warmly welcomed participants and introduced the event. This was followed by opening speeches from Withania Cannathika Sugandi as the Head of the International Seminar Event 2025, Chintya Azna Cahaya Sabila as the General President of HIMA 2025, and Dr. Kevin Deniswara, S.E., M.Ak., CERA., Cert.DA., CTA., ACPA as the Head of Accounting Study Program (Alam Sutera & Kemanggisan), Head of Accounting Program, and Head of Accounting Technology Program at Bina Nusantara University.

After the opening segment, the event proceeded with Michael Christian Tanuwijaya as moderator. He introduced the theme and welcomed the two speakers, who are Mr. Setiadi Sutanto, M.M., M.Sc., C.A., A-CPA, ACMA, CGMA, CPA (Aust.), and Mr. Bala Iyer, FCCA.

The first session was presented by Mr. Setiadi Sutanto, Head of Finance and Compliance (CFO) of Henkel Indonesia. He introduced Henkel and its finance function, demonstrating how AI is integrated into financial operations. Mr. Setiadi explained how AI enhances processes and boosts efficiency, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining transparency, accountability, fairness, and responsible data usage. Participants were encouraged to adopt a mindset of working smarter and making informed decisions, while still upholding the ethical standards expected in the finance profession.

The second session was led by Mr. Bala Iyer, Co-Founder and CEO of The Walnut AI Pte Ltd. He demonstrated how AI interprets documents, organizes unstructured data, and supports the evolving role of accountants and finance professionals. Mr. Bala also conducted a live interview with Ms. Afreen, an accountant who now contributes to training AI systems at Walnut AI. Their discussion highlighted that AI is not meant to replace accountants but to empower them, which enables more efficient work, improved analysis, and stronger adaptability to the changing financial landscape.

Both speaker sessions were followed by informative Q&A segments moderated by Michael, allowing participants to clarify insights and explore the topic further. The speakers were then given tokens of appreciation for their valuable contributions. Afterwards, the event returned to the Master of Ceremony, who facilitated a quiz session on the theme of AI in Fraud Detection and Financial Security. This quiz reinforced the key discussions and helped participants assess their understanding.

Overall, the seminar provided participants with meaningful insights and a comprehensive exploration of AI’s role in fraud detection and financial security. While AI has become an essential tool in strengthening financial integrity, it also brings challenges such as ethical considerations, data privacy concerns, and the need for transparency. Moving forward, effective collaboration between technology, regulation, and human judgment will be crucial in ensuring that AI continues to support and enhance the financial sector.
