Virtual Immersion: Australia’s Way of Surviving in The Covid-19 Pandemic

Virtual Immersion 2021 HIMA is an event organized by the Accounting Student Association (HIMA) of Binus University. Virtual Immersion is held for BINUSIAN students and non-BINUSIAN students. Virtual Immersion HIMA 2021 aims to introduce and learn how Australia is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

This time, Virtual Immersion 2021 HIMA was held on December 9, 2021, with (..) hours online via Zoom Cloud Meetings with the theme “Australian’s Way of Surviving in the COVID-19 Pandemic.” It aims to introduce Australia’s way of surviving in conditions COVID-19 and add insight into Australian culture, which may be different from Indonesian culture and thereby broaden their general awareness.

This event started with a prayer by Prawyra Lolodatu Massora and Gracela Felicia as MCs of Virtual Immersion HIMA 2021. Then, the event continued with a welcoming certificate from Mr. Kevin Deniswara, S.E., M.Ak., CERA., as Deputy Head of Accounting Study Program.

Virtual Immersion 2021 invited 3 speakers, namely Ms. Ly Fie Sugianto as Associate Professor of Accounting Information System from Monash University Australia, Mr. Kevin Mandira, and Mr. Fikriansyah as representatives of the Indonesian Student Association in Australia.

The session by Ms. Ly Fie Sugianto covered the topic of “How Algorithms will Play a Key Role in Digital Economics and The Manifestation of The Society 5.0.” After the presentation by Ms. Ly Fie, this event was followed by a question and answer session moderated by Ms. Shinta Amalina H Havidz, Ph.D., and finally, a certificate handover.  The wonderful session was followed by a cultural introduction session by Mr. Kevin Mandira who shared experiences with participants, starting from the people’s daily activities to authentic things in Australia.

Then, Mr. Fikriansyah also provided a session on learning culture in Australia, where he shared knowledge about education, such as the requirements for education and eligibility if you want to work in Australia. It was followed by another question and answer session, where the participants actively delivers their inquiries to the speaker. It was followed by a certificate handover session, which is done as a sign of respect for the speakers.

The excitement of the event was complemented by a Mini Quiz session on general knowledge of the Australian state and ended with a documentation session.

We, as the committee, would like to thank all parties, especially our esteemed speakers, namely Ms. Ly Fie Sugianto, Mr. Kevin Mandira, and Mr. Fikriansyah who have participated in Virtual Immersion 2021. We hope that the next immersion event will be better and that all parties receive more insights.
