Nusantara <\/span><\/i>is a term from <\/span>Kawi language<\/span><\/i> that specifially refer to outer islands. <\/span>Nusantara<\/span><\/i> derived from two words which is, <\/span>\u201cNusa\u201d <\/span><\/i>mean islands and <\/span>\u201cantara\u201d <\/span><\/i>mean outer, so the literal meaning of <\/span>Nusantara <\/span><\/i>is outer islands. <\/span>Nusantara<\/span><\/i> is use by some regions like Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries. The term <\/span>Nusantara<\/span><\/i> now in Indonesia means is \u201cIndonesia Archipelago\u201d and in Malaysia, <\/span>Nusantara <\/span><\/i>means is \u201cMalaysia Archipelago\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first recorded use of the word <\/span>Nusantara<\/span><\/i> is in an oath by Gajah Mada in 1336, written in old bibles name <\/span>Paraton <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Negarakertagama<\/span><\/i>. Gajah Mada is a powerful military leader and prime minister of Majapahit in Java, Indonesia in the past. Gajah Mada became a powerful military leader and prime minister because he brought the empire to its peak glory. Gajah Mada delivered an oath called \u201cSumpah Palapa<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/i>, Where he stated: <\/span>Sira Gajah Mada pepatih amungkubumi tan ayun amukita palapa, sira Gajah Mada: Lamun huwus kalah Nusantara ingsun amukti palapa, lamun kalah ring Gurun<\/span><\/i>, ring <\/span><\/i>Seram<\/span><\/i>, <\/span><\/i>Tanjungpura<\/span><\/i>, ring <\/span><\/i>Haru<\/span><\/i>, ring <\/span><\/i>Pahang<\/span><\/i>, <\/span><\/i>Dompo<\/span><\/i>, ring <\/span><\/i>Bali<\/span><\/i>, <\/span><\/i>Sunda<\/span><\/i>, <\/span><\/i>Palembang<\/span><\/i>, <\/span><\/i>Tumasik<\/span><\/i>, samana ingsun amukti palapa<\/span><\/i>.<\/span> Which means that Gajah Mada vowed to not eat any food until he conquered all of Nusantara under the glory of Majapahit. <\/span>The term <\/span>Nusantara<\/span><\/i> word prefer to outer islands outside of Java under hegemony of Majapahit Empire. Colonies outside of the Java island must pay annual tribute.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the oath by Gajah Mada, in 1920 Ki Hajar Dewantara Proposed that the term of <\/span>Nusantara<\/span><\/i> to be changed to Dutch region in Indonesia. Ki Hajar Dewantara proposed this because the Ducth use word <\/span>Indie<\/span><\/i> that mean <\/span>Hindia<\/span><\/i>, which often is confused with the other region India. Because of that, Ki Hajar Dewantara proposed <\/span>Nusantara <\/span><\/i>to become the alternative word of Dutch region in Indonesia. Then, Eduard Douwes Dekker introducing the term of <\/span>Nusantara <\/span><\/i>is <\/span>“Indonesi\u00eb” or “Insulinde”. Finally when Indonesia became an independent country in 1928, the term of <\/span>Nusantara <\/span><\/i>never changed. Until now, the word <\/span>Nusantara<\/span><\/i> is synonym with Indonesia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nusantara <\/span><\/i>now is associated with various main things like culture, anthropogeography, and even politics. In culture, the meaning is all of the culture, religion and art in Indonesia. In anthropogeographic, the meaning is geographical distribution of people in Indonesia. Then in politics, the meaning is the insight of <\/span>Nusantara<\/span><\/i>. This insight is about the knowledge to build <\/span>Nusantara <\/span><\/i>or Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\n
