Ninety-three years ago, on October 28<\/span>th<\/span>, 1928, young people in Indonesia vowed to have one motherland, one nation, and one language in the Second Youth Congress. Since then, every October 28<\/span>th<\/span>, Indonesian people have celebrated that day as Youth Pledge Day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Second Youth Congress was held in three locations. The first session was held in <\/span>Katholieke Jongenlinen Bond building; the second session was held in Oost Java Bioscoop building; and the third session was held at Kramat Raya Street number 106, a boarding house owned by Sie Kok Liong. The objectives of the Second Youth Congress are <\/span>to unite the dreams of all Indonesian youth associations, discuss several problems with the Indonesian youth movement, and strengthen national awareness as well as the unity of Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\n

On that day, the Indonesian Youth Associations agreed to formulate three promises which we know as <\/span>Sumpah Setia <\/span><\/i>and now known as <\/span>Sumpah Pemuda. Sumpah Setia<\/span><\/i> was recited by all young people which reads:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Kami Putra dan Putri Indonesia mengaku bertumpah darah yang satu, tanah air Indonesia<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Kami Putra dan Putri Indonesia mengaku berbangsa yang satu, bangsa Indonesia<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Kami Putra dan Putri Indonesia menjunjung bahasa persatuan, Bahasa Indonesia<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
