It is the day for celebration of love. Candy, flowers, chocolate are common things to give in Valentine\u2019s Day, even heart-shaped notes. But in Japan, shops and consumers have been gearing up for more commercialized romance, round two: a follow-up holiday called White Day.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s only been around for about 40 years, but it\u2019s turned into a big-spending event and has even\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/adelsteinjake\/2018\/03\/13\/how-japan-created-white-day-east-asias-alternate-valentines-day\/#386e9078348b\">filtered into other East Asian countries like China and South Korea<\/a>. Celebrated every 14 March \u2013 one month after Valentine\u2019s Day, it works as a mirror image to the holiday it precedes.<\/p>\n<p>In Japan, Valentine\u2019s Day means woman give \u201cgiri choco\u201d \u2013 \u201cgiri\u201d means \u201cobligation\u201d, \u201cchoco\u201d means \u201cchocolate\u201d to the man in their lives. A month later, on White Day, all the man who received presents must return the favor.
