It started during the era of King Charles II (1660-1685). At that time, the British Empire had an astronomer named John Flamsteed whose role was to provide advice and information about astronomy. While making observations, John Flamsteed was disturbed by the presence of ravens in the Tower of London and said that ravens were pests. John Flamsteed complained about this and asked King Charles II to chase away the ravens from the Tower of London.

Hearing the complaint, King Charles II gave an order to immediately expel and kill the ravens. However, one of the courtiers said and believed that the raven was sacred and if the raven left or was killed, the kingdom and the royal tower would fall. Hearing those words, King Charles II felt frightened. He also made regulations that required all citizens of the palace to care for and protect the ravens in the Tower of London.

Sentence expelling and killing ravens will destroy the kingdom and the Tower of London which is still believed today. Based on the hrp.org.uk website, there are currently 6 ravens in the Tower of London. The 6 ravens were named Jubilee, Harris, Poppy, Georgie, Edgar and Branwen. The British Empire itself has a special profession for people who care for ravens in the kingdom called “Raven Master“. To make sure the ravens at the Tower of London don’t leave, the Raven Master routinely trims the wing feathers and feeds and prepares a comfortable cage so the ravens don’t leave.

The British Royal Family always has unique rules that must be obeyed, one of which is keeping and caring for ravens because of the belief that ravens are sacred living beings and if a raven is chased away or killed it will have a bad impact on the kingdom.

REFERENCES

Doyle, L.
