Library Cleanup: Creating A Comfortable Center of Knowledge
As a debating community, BIPEDS continuously encourage their members to gain more and more knowledge through following the news, listening to lectures, participating in discussions, but most importantly, reading. Therefore, along with the interest to invite all members of Binus International to take active participation in campaigning the importance of reading whilst helping the less fortunate part of society, BIPEDS initialized a “Library Cleanup” as a social project to contribute in increasing the girls in Vincentius Puteri Orphanage’s interest of reading and expanding their knowledge through maintaining the newly built library.
Condition in whilst in the construction process
The orphanage had just recently rebuilt their library to become larger and more convenient for the children. Aiming to reopen the library on the start of the new academic year on July 15, 2016, the orphanage currently need volunteers to help rearrange and catalog the library. As a debating club that has a high concern to reading as a platform for knowledge exposure, BIPEDS plans to work together with officials from the orphanage to ensure that the library is ready for the children to utilize by the time the new academic calendar starts through the Library Cleanup project.
The Process of Cataloging and Sorting Books
As a result, BIPEDS successfully gathered students from various majors of Binus International to take part in this project several times a week. After several weeks of the process of re-arangging and re-cataloging the books, we were able to neatly organize and catalog the books and provide a comfortable space for members of the orphanage to pursue knowledge.
