Demonstrating Integrity
Demonstrating Integrity

“In looking for people to hire, look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. If they don’t have the first, the two others will kill you.” – Warren Buffet
What does integrity mean? According to the Cambridge Dictionary, integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Integrity can guide us in our everyday decisions. With integrity, you have nothing to fear since you have nothing to hide. With integrity, you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt.
One of AIESEC’s values is demonstrating integrity. We are consistent and transparent in our decisions and actions. We fulfill our commitments and conduct ourselves in a way that is true to our vision.
To me, demonstrating integrity is the same as demonstrating authenticity. We demonstrate integrity by being authentic, staying true to ourselves. Integrity is choosing your actions based on your values rather than personal gain. Integrity is doing what is right, not what is convenient, even when nobody is watching.
Here are some ways you can demonstrate integrity:
1. Listen to your conscience
Listen to your own voice, your own soul. Too many people listen to the noise of the world instead of themselves.
2. Honor your word
Keep your promises. Make promises important to you as they are to the recipient.
3. Be honest
When you stand for honesty, everything you say carries the voice of credibility.
4. Do the right thing, despite everything
Life is not about what you show others. Life is about how you behave when no one is looking.
5. Be confident
Be confident in doing the right thing. Do not hold yourself back to stand for what is right.
6. Admit your mistake
If you make a mistake, admit it. It is part of the learning process.
7. Accept consequences
There are consequences to everything. You have to acknowledge that.
8. Keep on improving
You must not be stuck in one place. You must become the best version of yourself.
9. Make a difference
Be a positive force in people’s lives. Make people feel special, bring out the best in them, help them without expecting something in return, and be genuinely happy for their achievements.
10. Live for a cause greater than yourself
Find your life’s purpose. It will inspire you, keep you grounded, and provide stability, regardless of the turbulences in your life. You do not have to worry about small, petty stuff when you have a big goal in your life. Living life with a purpose will motivate you to get up in the morning and make your life meaningful.
It is time for you to demonstrate integrity in your own life.
